Highlighting New Fall 2013 Special Topics Course!

LSC 597
Libraries and the Information Marketplace
Instructor:  Pablo Sandoval

This course provides an introduction to the relationship between commercial firms ("vendors") and the libraries that buy their goods and services.  After a brief historical examination of this relationship, case studies and negotiation simulations will introduce students to the types of interactions that librarians have with these firms.  (Special attention will be paid to current vendor-library disputes.)  The class will also highlight some of the career opportunities available to M.L.I.S. graduates within private industry.

2013 SUMMER COMPS


2013 SUMMER Comps

Summer comps will be held on Saturday, June 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Chafee Hall, Room 219.
Dr. Ma will be proctoring.

Students who are planning to graduate in August must submit a Nomination for Graduation form, which can be found on the GSLIS Sakai site. It must be clearly filled out and returned to the GSLIS Student Affairs Office prior to the deadline of MONDAY, April 15th Please do not submit the form electronically.    The Nomination form is all that is necessary to register you for the comps. There are no fees.

Please remember that an up-to-date Program of Study is a graduation requirement. If you have diverted from your plan of study, you must contact your advisor to fill out a new form.

If you are on campus, you are welcome to stop by the Student Affairs Office to drop off your Nomination form. If mailing, please use the following address:

2013 April Comps / May Graduation

Spring comps will be held this year on Saturday, April 6, in Rodman Hall, Room 109, from 9:00 to 1:00 p.m.

Students who are planning to graduate in May 2013 must submit a Nomination for Graduation form which can be found on the Sakai site:  http://www.uri.edu/gsadmis/documents/NomMasters.pdf.  It must be clearly filled out and returned to the GSLIS Student Affairs Office prior to the deadline of Friday, February 1st.

Students scheduled to take the exam are encouraged to visit the Student Guide Sakai site.  This site offers detailed information about preparing for the comps, test taking procedures, as well as previous exams.  It is also a great opportunity to organize study groups on line and "converse" with other students through a chat room.

Anyone with special needs should speak to their advisor so that alternate arrangements can be made for taking the exam.
